General information

To present a general program of the fundamental topics on East, South, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, through the following disciplines: Language and Culture; Geography, History and Religion; Economics, Sociology, Politics and Law. All these contents in their historical and contemporary aspects.

Admission Profile

Professionals and specialists from different disciplines belonging to the public or private sector, academics, undergraduate and graduate students and the general public related to the subject.

Instructors

The instructors and module coordinators are, for the most part, teachers and researchers trained at UNAM with extensive experience in Asian studies; in fact, many have lived and studied in Asian universities. The student can be sure that the information they possess and that will be transmitted throughout the course is serious and first-hand.

What do I get at the end?

Students who successfully complete the diploma course, in addition to receiving their diploma endorsed by UNAM, will have a greater ability to perceive the different phenomena occurring in Asia.

Evaluation

The written work should be between 4,500 and 6,000 words MAXIMUM. The topics may be selected according to the lines proposed by the module coordinators (topic-questions) or according to the contents of the lectures.

The essays should contain: introduction (problem statement, purpose and research questions), development (academic argumentation), conclusions, critical apparatus and sources of consultation (academic, specialized, journals, governmental entities. Avoid Wikis, blogs and materials that have not been submitted to an editorial process of opinion or peer review).

It is essential that the papers include citations and references of the documents that support their research. The format to be used by the student will be the one proposed by the American Psychological Association, known as APA. Each time an idea, data, theory, image or words of another person are used while writing the essay, the student must indicate the author's last name, year of publication, title and subtitle of the work, edition from the second, country and publisher. Example: "Clark, E. (1965). Preventive Medicine: an epidemiological approach. New York. McGraw Hill". All sources should be listed in alphabetical order at the end of the paper. The grade will be given by the specialist in the subject in conjunction with a specialist professor from another region; the grade will be: "Pass" or "Fail".

  • In case the student only takes one of the modules:
    • A minimum of 80% attendance is required.
    • At the end of the program the student will have to submit a written paper. The topic of the essays will be chosen according to the lines proposed by the module coordinators (questions-topics) or according to the contents of the papers.
    • The grade will be given by the specialist in the subject in conjunction with a specialist professor from another region; the grade will be: "Pass" or "Fail".

The elements to be graded are:

  • Spelling and syntax.- The writing of the paper must meet the standards of an academic paper, without spelling and syntax errors.
  • Presentation of the document: Complete organization (title, summary, body of the essay, conclusions and biblio-hemerographic references).
  • Punctuality in delivery: The date and form of delivery is immovable.
  • Clear identification of the object of study: Explain in a clear and substantial way the phenomenon to be studied.
  • Logical articulation of ideas: Each paragraph must have a sequence with the previous one, i.e., the arguments must be interrelated.
  • Synthetic conclusions: The ability to recapitulate the central ideas of the work, as well as to make a series of reflections.
  • Relevant and scientific bibliographic and data sources: The sources should be books, articles, scientific electronic pages, i.e., omit the use of readings or pages of dubious quality (e.g.: buenas tareas.com, el rincón del vago.com, Wikipedia.com, tareasfacil.com, among many others. )
