She is the founder of award-winning digital platform, The Hijra Project. She has a B.A. in journalism and an M.A. in social work from the University of Delhi in India. She completed her M.Phil. in social medicine and community health from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She has also worked with All India Radio and Al Jazeera English. She was a recipient of a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship at the department of epidemiology and international public health at Bielefeld University and the INLAKS scholarship at the department of gender and sexuality studies at the University College London. She’s currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Thapar School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Patiala, India. With a Ph.D. in Anthropology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, her research delves into medical and cultural anthropology, gender and sexuality studies, social medicine, and feminist geography. She has received numerous accolades, including the Likho Award for Excellence in Media and the Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Award. Her work has been published in esteemed journals and books, addressing critical topics such as caste and kinship among Hijras and the socio-cultural impact of COVID-19. She has also worked with FHI 360, UNICEF, the National AIDS Control Organization in India, the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, and the humanitarian organization Plan International.
