Doctor in Sociology from UNAM. He is currently a Senior Researcher and director of the Center for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (CIALC). He is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNII), level 3. He has been a researcher and visiting professor at various national and international universities, including FLACSO, Instituto Mora, and the Autonomous University of Chiapas, as well as international institutions such as the Higher Council for Scientific Research in Spain (CSIC), the University of Florence, and the Austral University of Chile. His lines of research are food policies, governance, local agri-food systems, rural and territorial development, and citizenship. He has published more than 17 books as author, coordinator, or editor and around 50 articles in national and international indexed academic journals, as well as more than 60 chapters in books. He has coordinated several research groups on food policies, rural development, and localized agri-food systems supported by the Ministry of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation, SECIHTI (former CONACYT), PAPIIT projects, European Union and other national and international institutions. Throughout his career, he has distinguished himself by forming networks and linking his research topics to society.
