Shrimati Das

Dr. Shrimati Das, scholar, polyglot and translator, is the director of the Gurudev Tagore Indian Cultural Center, Mexico, part of ICCR, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. ICCR Chair/Professor for Cultural Studies at the University of Indonesia. A Fulbright fellowship and Commonwealth Fellow, Dr. Das has been part of the Cultural Exchange Group Study Team in Ecuador. She was also a postdoctoral researcher at Northern Kentucky University, USA and a senior researcher at the Ministry of Culture. A multilingual translator, Dr. Das has translated Meri Ekyavan Kavitaen (My Fifty-One Poems) into English. She is also an editor and author of several writings on Indian and global culture and women philosophers. She has also acted in iconic Bengali plays by Badal Sarkar, and translated plays by Mohan Rakesh, and American and British playwrights such as Tennessee Williams and William Shakespeare. She received the best teacher award given by the Government of Karnataka, and was also honored with the "Mahila Shiromani'' award by the NRI Institute, New Delhi. Two of her books on cultural studies were presented by the President of India.
