Professor and Researcher at the National Autonomous University of Mexico’s Graduate School of Social and Political Sciences (UNAM-FCPyS), which he currently directs. He is a Level II member of the National Researcher System (SNII). He was granted the 2021 National University Award in the Teaching of Social Sciences. In Mexico, he pioneered the study of comparative regionalisms and the European Union and founded the Center of European Studies (CEE). He has directed a diversity of research projects on regionalisms and international security within the framework of UNAM’s Program to Support Research Projects and Technological Innovation (PAPIIT). In addition, he has participated in multiple international projects. He was member of the Civil Society Reflection Group for Global Development Perspectives that brings together civil society and academic leaders. This Reflection Group wrote the No Future Without Justice Report presented at the Río+20 Summit. Dr. Chanona is a member of the Honor Council of the Mexican Association of International Studies (AMEI), an organization over which he presided from 2003 to 2005. He is also a member of the Mexican International Affairs Council (COMEXI) and the International Studies Association (ISA).
