Associate researcher at the Institute of Economic Research at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City. He is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNII in Spanish) at the "candidate level." Dr. Méndez-Astudillo earned his Ph.D. in digital science from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Geography at UNAM, where he used data science and geospatial analysis techniques to monitor urban heat islands and air quality in Mexico's major metropolitan areas (P.I: Ernesto Caetano). Dr. Méndez-Astudillo has published fifteen articles in indexed journals and three book chapters with various publishers such as UNAM and Springer. He has also presented his research at national and international academic conferences such as the AGU annual meeting or MEDGU annual meeting. Dr. Méndez-Astudillo participates in postgraduate programs in economics and sustainability at UNAM, where he has taught courses related to statistics and data science. His main research interests are: The digitalization of the economy in different regions of the world, such as Asia, Europe, and Latin America. He also studies the impact of generative artificial intelligence on the economy and education, as well as the economic impact of exposure to extreme climate in the context of climate change and environmental justice.
