Doctor in Economics from the University of Notre Dame (1996). Since 1993 he has been working as a full-time Professor in the Division of Postgraduate Studies of the School of Economics (DEP-FE by its Spanish acronym) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

He is a member of the National Researchers System (SNI), level 3. Consultant for various national and international institutions, including PEMEX, ECLAC, IDB, GTZ, OECD, ILO, UNCTAD, among others. Since joining DEP-FE as a Professor, he has actively participated in teaching with courses at the undergraduates, masters and PhD levels.

Since 1993 he also stands out for a significant academic production that has been reflected in his national and international publications. His research, teaching and consulting work focuses on industrial organization, political economy, development, commercial and regional theory; foreign investment in Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean, analysis of the productive structure in Mexico and Latin America; sectorial studies (electronics, auto parts and automotive, agroindustry and pharmaceuticals) and territorial studies (in Mexico and Central America).

Since 2003, it has increasingly focused on the Chinese economy and its link with Latin America and Mexico. He is the coordinator of the Field of Political Economy Knowledge of the Postgraduate in Economics at UNAM; the coordinator of the Center for China-Mexico Studies (CECHIMEX) of the School of Economics at UNAM since May 2006 and the coordinator of the Academic Network of Latin America and the Caribbean on China since May 2012.

He participates daily in mass media through articles and interviews in both, Mexican and international media.
