Alejandro Alday

He holds a law degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana and a Master's Degree in Diplomatic Studies from the Matías Romero Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE). He has studies in International Public Law at The Hague Academy of International Law, the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights, and the Division of Continuing Education of the UNAM. He has been a member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1998. He has been Legal Advisor at the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the Organization of American States (OAS) and at the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the United Nations in New York, where he was also part of the Mexican team to the Security Council in 2009-2010. At the SRE, he has been Director General of Human Rights and Democracy, from 2013 to 2015, and Legal Consultant of the Foreign Ministry, between 2015 and 2019. He is the author of several publications on Human Rights, Terrorism and the Rule of Law in the United Nations, among others. He is an active member of the Mexican Branch of the International Law Association and member of the International Bar Association (#1372501). Since July 2019, he has served as General Director of the Matías Romero Institute.
