He holds a PhD in Philosophy from UNAM. He has received distinctions such as the National Philosophy Award, from the Philosophical Association of Mexico; the Mexican Academy of Sciences Award for best doctoral thesis in the humanities, as well as the National University Distinction for Young Academics, in the area of Research in the Humanities. He has served as visiting professor in the Master of Bioethics and Law at the University of Barcelona and in the Master of Environmental Management at the International University of Andalusia. He is a full-time tenured professor, teaching the subjects of Ethics, Philosophy of Technology and Ethical Principles of Bioethics, in the Undergraduate and Graduate Studies in Philosophy, in the Graduate Studies in Philosophy of Science and in the Graduate Studies in Medical and Health Sciences, all of them at UNAM, where he worked, from 1997 to 2008, as Coordinator of the Academic Council of the Humanities and Arts Area. From 2009 to 2012, he was Coordinator of the Graduate Studies in Philosophy of Science, and from 2012 to 2017, he was Coordinator of the Graduate Studies in Philosophy of Science. In the Graduate Studies in Medical and Health Sciences, he also served, from 1997 to 2008, as Coordinator of the Academic Council of the Humanities and Arts Area, from 2009 to 2012, as Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Philosophy of Science, from 2012 to 2017, as Director of the Bioethics Program and, from 2017 to 2021, as Director of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. He is a professor in the Inter-University Master and Doctorate in Philosophy, Science and Values co-organized by the University of the Basque Country and UNAM in San Sebastian. He is a member of the National System of Researchers level II, of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and of the International Association of Bioethics.

He has focused his studies on projects on Bioethics and Gene-Ethics, Ethics in the face of human-transforming biotechnologies, Knowledge Society and cultural diversity, Invitation to bioethics and Bioartefacts: philosophical problems, social and environmental consequences. His publications include the book “Ethics and technological world'', published by UNAM and Fondo de Cultura Económica in 2008; and the books as coordinator: “Interdisciplinary Approximations to bioartefactuality”, UNAM, 2016. “Bioethics Dialogues. New knowledge and values of life”. FCE/UNAM, 2013. “Technoscience and democracy. Problems and perspectives towards citizen participation”, UNAM, 2012. Noteworthy is his contribution to Volume II (Philosophy) of the Encyclopedia of Fundamental Knowledge, published by UNAM and Siglo XXI publishing house in 2011.
