She holds a PhD in History from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. She is a tenured researcher and served as the director of the Institute of Historical Research from 2013 to 2021. The UNAM has distinguished her with the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz award (2010). Since 1996 she has been a National Researcher, level 2. She has published and coordinated several publications, her articles on the relations between the Church and the insurgency have aroused interest and commentaries in Mexico and abroad, the most recent being "La justicia de la causa. Razón y retórica del clero insurgente de la Nueva España", published by the University of Navarra, Spain, in its yearbook of Church History (2008) and "Religión y política: Manuel Sabino Crespo, un cura párroco del sur de México", in Historia Mexicana (2006), the latter obtained the honorable mention awarded by the Committee of Historical Sciences to the best article in colonial history (2008). She has published more than forty works including articles, book chapters and critical reviews on topics related to independence, political history, regional history and church history.
