She completed her undergraduate, master's and doctoral studies in Sociology at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (FCPyS) of the UNAM. She completed a post-doctorate in Sociology of Law at the University of Milan, Italy. She has a 35-year career within the FCPyS and is a full-time tenured professor. She has held the following institutional positions: director, general secretary, coordinator of the undergraduate and graduate programs in Sociology, as well as of the Center for Continuing Education.

Outside the faculty, she has been coordinator of Liaison with the University Council and coordinator of the Academic Council of the Social Sciences Area (CAACS). She belongs to the National System of Researchers at level III. She currently teaches the Sociological Research Workshop at the undergraduate level and Research Seminar II at the master's level. She has been responsible for seven PAPIIT projects, resulting in an equal number of books; she is the author of numerous book chapters and articles in specialized journals. She has taught courses and given lectures abroad. She is coordinator of the Law and Politics working group of the Research Committee on Sociology of Law of the International Sociological Association, and academic advisor of the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Penales. In recognition of her work as a professor, she received the National University Distinction for Young Academics in the Area of Teaching in Social Sciences in 1989, while in 2014 she was awarded the National University Prize in the Area of Teaching in Social Sciences.
