Ph.D. degree in Architectural Engineering from Kyoto University in 1990. Professor Kawase is currently a Program-Specific Professor of Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University. His current research is mainly focusing on the physics-based modeling of strong ground motions based on the data-driven approaches for source and site characterizations.
