Civil Engineer with MSc and PhD all from the School of Engineering at UNAM. He is Professor of Structural Engineering and Earth Sciences at UNAM where he teaches regularly Applied Mathematics and Dynamic Elasticity. His research has been focused on wave propagation and the effects of surface geology on seismic ground motion and developed to this end, numerical methods and analytical solutions. More recently, he studied diffuse fields as a theoretical approach to passive seismic exploration and also a practical tool to site characterization. He has over 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals and more than 3000 citations (according to Web of Science). He got the National Science and UNAM Awards in 1994 and 1998. He got the 2015 DPRI Award from Kyoto University, Japan. In 2016 he was awarded by the Mexican National Research System (SNI) as Emeritus National Researcher.
