Aim of the scholarship

The main aim of this scholarship programme is to enable scholars from Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and European Neighbourhood to undertake at Jagiellonian University research in which they are engaged in their home institution and to help them to establish academic and research contacts.

Types of scholarships and funding

The scholarships are financially supported by the Jagiellonian University, while the Coimbra Group Office is in charge of the administrative management of the applications.

The Jagiellonian University offers three scholarships per each of the three following programmes:

  • Scholarship Programme for Young Researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa. The Jagiellonian University will pay the flat fee amount of 1500 Euro per month, that can be used for covering the costs of travel, accommodation and per diem.
  • Scholarship Programme for Young Professors and Researchers from Latin American Universities. The Jagiellonian University will pay the flat fee amount of 1500 Euro per month, that can be used for covering the costs of travel, accommodation and per diem.
  • Scholarship Programme for Young Researchers from the European Neighbourhood. The Jagiellonian University will pay the flat fee amount of 1200 Euro per month, that can be used for covering the costs of travel, accommodation and per diem.

Duration of each scholarship is of one month at maximum.

The funds are paid to the participant upon his/her arrival to the Jagiellonian University.

The Jagiellonian University does not provide any extra funds.

Scholars are requested to have the insurance for their travel and stay at Jagiellonian University.

The funds are ensured by the budget of the vice-rector responsible for research dedicated to the research bilateral exchange. The International Relations Office is responsible for the scholarships’ administration, including scholarship payment.

Application and selection procedures

Candidates for the scholarship are selected on the basis of the quality of their application and approval of the Jagiellonian University hosting unit.

Applicants should contact the Jagiellonian University International Relations Office before applying. When contacting the JU International Relations Office, it is required to include a training proposal.

Candidates’ applications are assessed by Scholarship Council appointed by the JU vice-rector responsible for research.

Decisions of the Scholarship Council are final and not subject to appeal.

The candidates should submit the application online: www.coimbra-group.eu until 31st March 2020. The application should be addressed to the JU International Relations Office.

The dates of participants’ stay at Jagiellonian University should be agreed upon between the applicant and the hosting unit at the Jagiellonian University. This will be during the academic year 2020/2021 (from October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021).
