Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the FCPyS-UNAM, where he received the 1993 Gabino Barreda Medal after obtaining the highest average of his generation. He completed his Master's degree in Asian and African Studies, El Colegio de Mexico, in the specialty of China and PhD in Eastern Asian History at the University of Tokyo, Japan (2003). During his residency in Tokyo from 1998 to 2012 he served as a professor at several universities in the Kanto area, including International Christian University, Sophia University, Daito Bunka University and Utsunomiya University; He is a full-time professor at the University of Tokyo, and has worked as a translator and news broadcaster in national and international media and is the author of several publications. He is currently a Full-time Associate Professor of International Relations and Asian Studies and Coordinator of the Asia Pacific Studies Program in the Academic Department of International Studies at ITAM.
