He holds a Ph.D. in Asian and African Studies with a specialization in Africa from the Colegio de México. He is a professor in the Department of Humanities at the University of Puerto Rico in Cayey; and also in the Faculty of Humanistic Studies in the Department of Liberal Arts at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. He has offered several courses on African, social and cultural anthropology, Afro-Caribbean religions, African religions, popular religions, among many others. He has made several publications related to the history of Puerto Rico, African religions, ethnicity in Africa and the African in Puerto Rico.
