Introductory session*

The University Program of Studies on Asia and Africa (PUEAA) will hold an inaugural session of the African Studies Diploma: Memory and Contemporary Dynamics in which, in addition, a commemorative event will take place for the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela.

Aug. 6th, 15:00 hrs.

Coordinators: Alicia Girón, Rosamaría Villarello and José Luis Gázquez

The aim of the Diploma is to open the opportunity to extend knowledge about Africa to students, teachers, and the public interested in, among others, the connection that Africa has with the world, which has been ignored. Mexico has strong African roots and a great wealth in what refers to its heritage and because today, within the globality, it is necessary to give it the importance it deserves.

  • To include the study of Africa as a central project in UNAM as a fundamental part in understanding world events from all fields of knowledge.
  • To plan research activities and academic exchange with the main universities of that region.
